Microsoft has been grabbing headlines as of late with it’s launch of a completely reimagined Windows 8 and Windows Surface Tablets but now stronger rumors are surfacing of yet another Microsoft product targeted at Mobile Gaming according to The Verge:
“We’ve learned that part of the Xbox Surface is being developed at Microsoft’s offices in Silicon Valley. The software giant recently locked down several Xbox-related buildings, limiting employee access to the company’s Interactive Entertainment Business division. The lock down is likely related to Microsoft’s increased testing of the tablet, providing a way for other parts of the Xbox team to build games and software for the device. Providing the project doesn’t get killed in favor of a full 7-inch Windows tablet, in the same way Microsoft axed Courier, expect to see the Xbox Surface debut ahead of Microsoft’s future Xbox console.”
While many gadget-geeks are looking for Specs and Apps, Gamers will want the platform with the best and largest library of Games. A Microsoft tablet that could provide some Windows 8 feature crossover and access to an existing Xbox library could definitely have a chance to compete with Nintendo’s 3Ds, Sony’s Playstation Vita and Apple’s iPad and iPad Mini. A device that could use existing Xbox Live subscriptions could entice Xbox gamers to add the device to home rather than jumping to a new platform and new marketplace.
This device could very well be compatible with an existing Xbox so that it can function as a “second-screen” or companion device to enhance a gamers experience similar to Nintendo’s Wii U.
Microsoft isn’t officially commenting or revealing any details on release date or final features and specifications.
