The content must be valuable to consumer of the content. Companies should be trying to create the type of content that will establish themselves as Thought leaders.
Here are some examples of types of “Social Media Currency”
Archived knowledge – Repurposed information that you own and have access to which can be excerpts from a past book, old interview or a white paper to name a few examples. This establishes you as a reliable source of original content with the chance to spread virally through the Social Media Channels.
Real-Time Knowledge – You should be willing to answer any question as best you can. For example, you could help a customer make and informed buying decision EVEN if their buying from someone else. This builds trust.
Humor – In the right context Humor can be very effective. The “Old Spice Guy” campaign doubled Old Spice’s Sale when their humorous videos spread virally.
Products – You could release light, demo or samples of your products for free to your followers or people that have Liked your Facebook page.
