On 6th July 2011 Facebook made a Live Announcement that they were integrating Skype Video Calling into their existing chat feature.
You are now able to chat one on one with your friends, colleagues and business partners.
It has been rumored that Facebook’s timely release is a direct jab at the recent debut of the Google+ Social Network announcement and their own 10 person Group Video chat feature called “Hangouts”.
This new service came about after Facebook and Microsoft who bought Skype for $8.5 billion dollars established an agreement to put the Skype video chat application into Facebook.
At the Live Announcement last week 3 New Features were announced:
1 – Chat Re-Design
Provided you have a wide enough screen you’ll have a dynamic list of friends on a side bar chat frequency.
2 – Group Chat
Group chat with your friends on your normal chat feed, not just from within a group.
3 – Video Chat & Video Calls
Integration with Skype and free instant video chat and calling with all of your Friends.
The following video with Jo Barnes of the Social Networking Academy will show you how to get started with Facebook Video Chat and Facebook Video Calls:
